When you consider the brevity and unpredictability of the British Summer, it becomes a little easier to understand the over-excitement on display after the first hints of sustained sunshine. Maybe we celebrate too early, too enthusiastically, and too hopefully – those handful of days in spring when the Sun greets us again after months of bitter greyness usually awaken that desire to drink, dine and relax outside. People might take it a little to far and bring out the sandals and bare-chestedness a little too early – but nearly all of us are united by a silent and collective willing for those long summer days and evenings to start again.
Its tantalisingly close anyway, but not close enough to touch. Maybe our selection of soulful Summer joints can help bridge that gap. Have a listen below:
Roy Ayers – Everybody Loves The Sunshine
Aalon – Summer Love
Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness
The Isley Brothers – Summer Breeze
Quincy Jones Ft. Valerie Simpson – Summer In The City
War – Summer
