(1) In the track Rap Snitch Knishes, off the Mm..Food album, Doom sprays some bars that are both a nod to Biggie Smalls, and also a reference to a Tears For Fears song – “there’s rules to this shit, fools dare care/everybody wanna rule the world with tears for fear” (1:42)
(2) Tears For Fears, after a very lengthy hiatus, released a a cover version of Ready To Start in 2013 – a song that was first written and recorded by Arcade Fire
(3) Arcade Fire and Roman Coppola produced a lengthy video to coincide with the release of their latest album Reflektor. The video, an interesting, avant-garde mixture of comedy, live music, and performance art, featured cameos from a number of actors, comedians and musicians. Aziz Ansari makes an appearance in an imagined sketch show Big Bud, Li’l Bud (7:10-7:17 and 20:53-21:00)
(4) Aziz Ansari also made another brief cameo appearence in Jay Z and Kanye West’s Otis video : (1:36 and 2:33)
(5) According to numerous magazines, interviews, and articles (Rolling Stone, Complex) Portishead were a big influence on Kanye, especially during the time he constructed the education-themed albums College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation. (6) Portishead’s lead female vocalist is Beth Gibbons, an extremely talented musician and artist known for her work with the aforementioned band, solo endeavours, and also various collaborations.
