1876- Thomas Edison receives a patent for his mimeograph, a low-cost printing press that works by forcing ink through a stencil onto paper.

1908- Wilbur Wright makes his first public flight at Le Mans racetrack which led to them developing the world’s first successful airplane

1963- Great Train Robbery: in England, a gang of 15 train robbers, led by Bruce Reynolds, steal £2.6 million in bank notes.

1969 – Photographer Iain Macmillan takes the photo that becomes the cover of the Beatles album Abbey Road.

1969- Sharon Tate, wife of director Roman Polanski, and four others are murdered by members of Charles Manson’s ‘family’, two weeks before she was supposed to give birth.

1974- Richard Nixon steps down as President of the United States, being the only person to ever do so.
