1562 – Katō Kiyomasa, Japanese warlord, one of the senior commanders during the Seven-Year War. Became known as one of the Seven Spears of Shizugatake  (d. 1611)

1894 – Gavrilo Princip, Bosnian assassin of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, an event that is widely regarded as being the catalyst for the outbreak of the First World War. (d. 1918)

1941 – Emmett Till, American murder victim. 14 year-old African-American boy who was murdered in Mississippi for supposedly flirting with a white woman. The two prime suspects Roy Byrant and his half-brother J. W. Milam were acquitted by an all white jury, and later confessed in an interview to having killed Emmett; Due to the concept of Double Jeopardy however, neither could be tried again. The case is recognised as a motivation for the African-American Civil Rights Movement.

1967 –  Matt LeBlanc, American actor and producer, best known for playing Joey in Friends.

1978 – Louise Brown, the first human to have been born through IVF (in vitro fertilisation). This is colloquially referred to as being a “test tube baby”.

1986 – Hulk, or Givanildo Vieira de Sousa Brazilian footballer playing for Zenit in the Russian League. Known as Hulk due to his resemblance to Lou Ferrigno, the actor who portrayed the Incredible Hulk in the TV Series.
