180- Twelve North African Sicilians known as the Scillitan Martyrs are were executed for their beliefs. They were the first recorded Christians from that part of the world.

1815- Napoleon Bonaparte surrenders to the British at Rochefort, France.

1945- Winston Churchill, Harry Truman and Joseph Stalin, meet in the final Allied summit of World War II to discuss the future of the defeated Germany.

1955- Disneyland California, the first of the two theme parks built in the resort, is opened. This is the only theme park designed and built under Walt Disney’s direct supervision.

1994- Brazil won their fourth World Cup, hosted by America, beating Italy on penalties.

2001- Concorde is brought back into service after the Air France Flight 4590 (July 2000) when all one hundred passengers and nine crew members were killed in a crash.
